Utility Shade Tree Program

making the Valley a shadier place, one tree at a time

Working in conjunction with the Salt River Project (SRP) utilities company, we distribute thousands of free desert-adapted shade trees to SRP customers across the Valley. Participants can receive up to two free trees after attending a workshop where they learn how to plant and care for their new shade trees. By the end of each year, we distribute 5,000 trees and educate over 4,000 Valley residents.

Locations for workshops and tree distributions vary each month in order to reach as many customers across the Valley as possible. To view dates and locations for all upcoming shade tree events, view our events calendar here.

Haroon Khan

"Volunteering with Trees Matter for the last three years has been amazing part of my life. As someone who works inside an office all day for work, spending time outside giving away trees is a great change and helps me lead a happier and fulfilling life. Trees Matter has created an opportunity for me to work with like-minded individuals to make a positive environmental impact in Arizona. My favorite part of working with Trees Matter is having the opportunity to learn about caring for trees and water management from passionate arborists around the valley."
